The Office Manager/Bookkeeper will work to handle the day-to-day operations of the organization and serve as the direct supervisor of the organization’s receptionists. The Office Manager works with all employees of GBL for time off requests, benefits questions, and prepares timecards for payroll on a regular basis. The Office Manager serves as the in-house go-to for employee concerns, ideas, and feedback, and serves as a point-of-contact for new hires.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct supervision of the front desk staff, including annual reviews and disciplinary action if needed

  • Ensure GBL always has adequate phone coverage

  • Manage time tracker and approve time off requests for all GBL employees

  • Serve as the gatekeeper for all employee absent emails/calls and communicate with managers regarding daily employee attendance

  • Organize calendars, meetings, presentations, and assist with day-to-day tasks for managers as needed

  • Submit and approve payroll

  • Approve/review vendor payables

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent, required

  • 2+ years of leadership and management experience, preferred

Group Benefits, Ltd. has an immediate opening for an Accounting & Commissions Specialist at their Urbandale, Iowa office. This is an on-location / in-person position. The Accounting & Commissions Specialist is part of a team but will work independently as well.

 

The Accounting & Commissions Specialist will work to process and reconcile commissions for our in-house agents and our independent affiliates and meet deadlines to release commissions. This position will also assist agents in resolving any commission inquiries.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Post policy information from paper statements received by carriers to calculate accurate commissions to be paid to in-house and outside affiliate and brokers

  • Understand and perform the import processes from carriers that send policy and commission detail electronically

  • Maintain proper tracking on policies relating to states outside of Iowa, proper policy tracking on projects and revenue codes

  • Post correction entries to allocate correct commission split or agent to be paid

  • Track the commission cycle date commissions are received on new business sold

  • Responsible for setting up new agents within the accounting software (name, address, banking information, and 1099 info)

  • Post the deposits received from carriers within the accounting software. Reconcile the amounts received by each carrier within the accounting software to the commission database prior to closing a commission cycle

  • May perform a few A/P functions, such as posting commissions due to agents in our accounting system and marking paid via direct deposit or check into our systems

  • Post PO requests through accounting systems. Will allocate COA to bills and post to accounting system. Will match up PO requests to bills once bills are received and resolve any discrepancies. Responsible for tracking inventory and commissions due to employees on sales

 

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or recognized equivalent, required

  • 2+ years of working in an office setting, preferred

  • 2+ years’ experience working in the health insurance industry preferred

  • Proficient in all Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook
